OUR NURSING TEAM

The nursing team consists of experienced nursing staff graduates and students on placement.

The role of the nursing team is a flexible and varied one, and includes the following activities: ensuring the day-to-day core business of the unit is achieved, delivery and facilitation of high-quality patient care, and individual support for patients and families. We engage in and facilitate health promotion activities, patient-focused education, patient advocacy and collaborative patient assessment and treatment.

UNIT MANAGER
BRETT BOARDMAN (ON LEAVE)

Brett Boardman has worked within mental health since 1985. With his nursing career starting at Larundel Psychiatric Hospital (as the equivalent of today’s Division 2 nurse) he had since worked at Footscray Psychiatric Hospital and had over 20 years experience working with the MidWest AMHS -17 years as a manager. He had a short stint in QLD as a Liaison Officer for the Sunshine Coast and Gympie District Mental Health Service and has worked in numerous clinical roles including Inpatients, Mobile Support and Treatment Service, Crisis Assessment and Treatment Service and Triage. More recently, he was appointed as the Program Manager of the Specialist Unit of the Royal Melbourne Hospital. This position provides management for the highly specialised services of Neuropsychiatry, Eating Disorders and ECT.

ASSOCIATE NURSE UNIT MANAGER/ACTING TEAM LEADER
HOSU RYU

Hosu Ryu completed a Bachelor of Nursing at Australian Catholic University and her postgraduate studies at The University of Melbourne where she was awarded the Elizabeth Crowther award for outstanding clinical merit. She worked in various mental health services including adult psychiatric units and specialist eating disorders services in both public and private mental health systems. She joined the Neuropsychiatry Unit at the Royal Melbourne Hospital in 2017 as an Associate Nurse Unit Manager and is now Acting Team Leader. Hosu is a member of the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses and is highly passionate about nursing research and education

CLINICAL NURSE EDUCATOR/ASSOCIATE NURSE UNIT MANAGER
HELEN KELLY

Helen Kelly has worked in the Specialist Psychiatric Unit in the Royal Melbourne Hospital for over 20 years. She works as the Clinical Nurse Educator for the unit and is also an Associate Nurse Unit Manager. She trained at Royal Park Psychiatric Hospital under Dr John Cade and prior to that at the Royal Brisbane Hospital in Queensland.
